GTA 6’s missions aim to give players more room to choose routes and improvise. According to IGN, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said the team wants missions to offer more of the freedom found while exploring the map.
He explained that important scenes still need to guide players at times. The team also sought alternatives without compromising the experience.
There can be more than one way out

One example is a building with several escape routes. Another sequence recommends a route during a chase, but escaping in another direction can work too.
The example uses both protagonists
In one sequence, Raul gets into the back seat while Jason shoots and Lucia drives. The opening follows a path set by the story. Players then take the wheel and can try escaping in another direction.
The team also wants robberies and pursuits to follow similar rules inside and outside missions. What players learn while exploring the city can then help when the story calls for an escape.
