GTA 6’s launch trailer has taken a trip back in time. Creator Joseph Kaplan published a version made with GTA 4, replacing Leonida’s settings with Liberty City streets and putting familiar characters from the 2008 game at the centre of the action.

According to the video’s description on Kaplan’s channel, the idea is to recreate the GTA 6 trailer using GTA 4. The tribute was also shared on Reddit’s r/GTA6 community.

A new trailer’s rhythm with GTA 4’s look

The recreation uses locations and characters from the older game to reinterpret the scenes. Liberty City warehouses, streets and elevated roads stand in for the new trailer’s settings, retaining the alternation between preparation and action.

In one sequence, two characters confront each other outside a shop. In another, a motorcycle passes beneath an elevated road. Niko Bellic also appears with an explosion behind him as part of the edit connecting both games.

The visual differences are part of the tribute’s appeal. Expressions, clothing, lighting and environments retain GTA 4’s appearance even when the sequence of shots recalls GTA 6 promotion.

Nostalgia returns to Liberty City

The project is a fan recreation published by its creator. The complete video is available on Joseph Kaplan’s YouTube channel under the title GTA 6 Launch Trailer but it's GTA 4.

For those familiar with Liberty City, the fun comes from recognising locations and characters within a new presentation. The trailer changes eras while remaining connected to GTA’s world.
