GTA 6 was running at 30 FPS in the console versions presented during development. According to Flow Games, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told content creator Davy Jones that this was the frame rate in use at the time. The report was published on August 27, 2026 and included PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S.

Asked about a 60 FPS option, Nelson said he would need to consult the technical team. That mode therefore remains unconfirmed for launch or a future update.

What FPS means when you play

FPS stands for frames per second. A game displays a sequence of images to create the movement we see on screen. At 30 FPS, it produces 30 images each second. At 60 FPS, it produces 60.

More frames generally make movements such as turning the camera or following a car look smoother. The difference can be particularly noticeable to players who are already used to 60 FPS.

For a console, moving from 30 to 60 FPS means producing twice as many frames in the same amount of time. Each image must be ready in around 16.7 milliseconds instead of the 33.3 milliseconds available at 30 FPS. Whether that is possible depends on the work required to process the game.

Consistency matters too

The regularity of those frames matters alongside their number. A game that maintains 30 FPS provides a more consistent experience than one that frequently drops below that rate.

Drops can cause brief stutters that become noticeable when moving the camera or driving. A 30 FPS target alone therefore cannot tell us how a game performs in its most demanding scenes. That requires testing the final release.

Will PS5 Pro have a 60 FPS option?

There is no confirmation so far. PS5 Pro was also included in the 30 FPS account. Details of the graphics modes available on each machine are still needed.

More powerful hardware can offer improvements, but those depend on how a game is built and the options its developer chooses to include. Buying a PS5 Pro therefore does not guarantee GTA 6 at 60 FPS.

Anyone considering a console upgrade specifically for that difference should wait for confirmed graphics modes or tests of the released game. The information currently available is that the versions presented ran at 30 FPS, with a 60 FPS option still unresolved.
