Waiting for GTA 6 has become material for a police social-media joke. After a driver was sentenced, Derbyshire Police in England shared an edited pursuit video on TikTok and suggested he would spend release day in prison. This arrest screen did not come with a restart button.

According to Dexerto’s reproduction of the November 3 post, the footage used GTA-inspired on-screen graphics and music. Its caption suggested that the driver could have waited a few more weeks for the game rather than getting involved in a real pursuit.

Did the police themselves make the joke?

Yes. The post was attributed to Derbyshire’s official TikTok account. The police teased the driver about the timing and said that such driving belonged on Vice City’s streets.

The official police statement identifies Jack Vickrage as 28. The Ripley pursuit happened on July 17; on October 27 he received 14 months in prison and a two-year driving ban. He admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, drug-driving and two cannabis-possession offences.

Police describe a Ford Transit fleeing through residential streets and damaging gates and fencing. Vickrage said he panicked. While on bail, he was caught driving again, with cannabis in the vehicle.

The upload date is not the pursuit date

Police published their written account on October 30, before the TikTok attracted gaming coverage in November. The chase therefore did not happen during the week the social-media post appeared.

The available reporting does not establish that Vickrage is a GTA fan or was awaiting its release. The connection to the game was made by the police.
