Australia’s broadband network is preparing for GTA 6 downloads. According to TechRadar, national network operator NBN Co says it has capacity to meet demand. Downloading before release should help spread transfers across several days.

Why does downloading early help?

If everyone starts downloading GTA 6 at launch, demand rises all at once. Preloading lets some people download today and others tomorrow, so they are not all using the network at the same time.

The game stays the same size. Only the download times change. A network can transfer a record amount over several days without being overloaded during one particular hour.

Preloading requires up to 212 GB, depending on the device. Digital PS5 purchases begin downloading at local midnight on November 10. Xbox Series X|S starts worldwide at midnight GMT that day, equivalent to 9 p.m. on November 9 in Brasília. Code-in-box versions are expected in shops from November 12.

Preloading prepares the files for the scheduled November 19 release. Buyers of a code-in-box version need to receive and redeem their code before downloading. Check delivery arrangements with the shop.

How long would a 212GB transfer take?

With a connection consistently delivering its advertised speed, a 212 GB download would take around 4 hours 43 minutes at 100 Mbps, roughly 57 minutes at 500 Mbps and about 28 minutes at 1 Gbps.

In practice, Wi-Fi, other people sharing the connection and server limits can make the download take longer. Console file checks can add to the wait too. These estimates are a guide for planning ahead.

Before paying for a faster plan, check free console storage and arrange the download. Starting a few days early may be enough to have everything ready for release.
