A GTA 6 offer from an overseas retailer may look tempting, but PS5 players should check one detail before buying. According to Rockstar Support, codes included in the boxed version can only be redeemed by accounts registered in the countries assigned to that region. On Xbox, those codes are not region-locked.
This affects anyone importing the game or asking someone to bring a copy home from a trip. On PlayStation, the country registered to the account determines which code can be used.
What this means for Brazilian accounts
Brazil appears as a separate PS5 region. A Brazilian account therefore needs a code intended for Brazil. The Latin America category does not include the country.
That category covers Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. North American codes work with accounts from Canada and the United States.
A box purchased in the United States consequently does not contain a code compatible with a Brazilian PlayStation account. The same caution applies to Portugal, which belongs to another group on the list.

Check that the retailer sells the version for your account’s country and confirm that information in the listing before paying.
The box contains a code, not a disc
GTA 6’s physical version contains a code to download the game. There is no disc in the box, so code compatibility is essential to accessing the purchase.
The boxed version is the Standard Edition. After redeeming it, players can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately through their console’s store. The Ultimate Edition will not have its own physical version.
What about Xbox players?
The guidance is simpler for GTA 6 codes sold in boxed Xbox copies. They are not region-locked, unlike their PS5 counterparts. This information concerns the game and should not be treated as a general rule for store credit or other products.
Japan has an additional condition. Japanese PlayStation codes expire 170 days after their issuance date, defined as the November 19, 2026 launch. This is the deadline for redeeming the code, not a limit on how long someone can play after activation.
